Death

What is this thing that men call death,
This quiet passing in the night?
'Tis not the end but genesis
Of better worlds and greater light.

Oh God touch though my aching heart
And calm my troubled haunting fears.
Let hope and faith transcendent, pure
Give strength and peace beyond my tears.

There is no death, but only change,
With recompense for victory won.
The gift of Him who loved all men,
The Son of God, the Holy One.

This is a poem written by President Gordon B. Hinckley in 2007 after he had lost his wife.  He later gave permission to Janice Kapp Perry to put it to music.  It is beautiful and has brought comfort to me as I have felt pain and sorrow at the recent loss of some very dear people in my life.

A cousin that I grew up with passed away the first part of this year and my Father early spring.  Both of them took up a lot of time in my mind and still I think of them and what they are doing and if they are happy and not in pain anymore.

Through the faith and knowledge I have in the gospel of Jesus Christ I know that they are well and happy.  They are busy doing the work of the Lord.  Teaching and testifying of His love and plan to know of eternal life and families.

President Thomas S Monson is a living prophet in our day.  He testifies that "Each of our temples is an expression of our testimony that life beyond the grave is real and as certain as is our life here on earth."

In the words of Amulek "The spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame."

Alma 11:43
